By Amy Firespell

What could be better than eating chocolate- that delicious, creamy concoction that's adored all over the world? Drinking chocolate without a doubt! Most people, in nearly every corner of the Earth take pleasure in curling up with a pleasant, warm cup of hot chocolate and we all know when it comes to gifts, hot chocolate gift baskets are one of the most loved gifts to give and receive.

For many individuals, drinking some hot, steaming chocolate is the only possible way to take off the winter chill and get heated up from the inside out. Nothing is comparable on a cold winter's day. Chocolate is so revered that's has become part of our holiday practices - featured in ice skating outings, sledding, skiing and holiday celebrations and gift giving. And hot chocolate gift baskets are a big hit every season.

Hot chocolate was one of the many findings of the New World in the Columbian Exchange. Hot chocolate was found to be a drink so powerful by the Aztecs that it was kept exclusively for the elite and spiritual rites. (Montezuma purportedly used it as an aphrodisiac).

And Signore Giovanni Casanova believed chocolate to be an essential part of any seduction. The famous lover always carried a special box of chocolates that his lady friends simply could not resist. Besides, Casanova thought that the secret of his sensual prowess laid in a habitual daily cup of hot chocolate.

And for those not trying to woo the object of their affections, companies, big and small as well as individuals, friends and family give hot chocolate gift baskets as one of the most treasured festive treats.

There are even some folks who believe hot chocolate to be so healthy for them that it is sort of medical remedy because it gives them an immediate lift in spirits. Still other people, just like to enjoy a cup of warm and creamy chocolate because they enjoy the taste and it brings to mind many fabulous memories from their adolescence.

Not only do some people consider this beverage to be good for them, but also, there have truly been many societies around the globe that have used and respected it as a food of the gods and as a remedy with healing abilities. It's only recently that there has been a study done in the Western world that supports this very idea. Lately, more data from research studies has been appearing about the health benefits and beneficial elements that are found in cacao, which is what is used to make all of the fantastic fine chocolates that the world loves today.

Whether you think you are drinking hot chocolate for health or just as it is delicious, doesn't really count. Just enjoy it on your own or offer a friend, family or co-worker a hot chocolate gift basket and stock up for yourself as the weather turns cold.

Sushi Bar : Differences In Them

By Ingrid Preube

For those who like international cuisine, a sushi bar is one of the places that must be visited. Unlike a standard restaurant, a sushi bar is very comparable to a modern bar or tavern in the western cultures.

Meant for group socialization and finger meal, a sushi bar allows for good meal to be served without it taking up space. With entertainment, be it shows, television or sports, the sushi bar blends western and eastern cultures.

Japanese sushi bars are very unlike from the sushi bar working in United States or Canada. Japanese sushi bar usually works like a fast meal hotel, where sushi feasts are running over a conveyor and picked up by the costumers. The cost of the sushi may be various with respect to the size of the platters and customers pay it after selecting their sushi.

In western settings a sushi bar is just another grill or a regular bar or a closer example might be sushi restaurants themselves. In United States or Canada few sushi bars tender previously prepared sushi feasts you just need to pick and pay.

If you are a regular customer of American sushi bars, you may get astonished by visiting sushi bars in Japan. Japanese bars are more conventional and unlike American sushi bars, their sushi is usually very unlike and adherent to conventional and non vegetarian sushi styles. For example; octopus, squid and other sea meal mostly accompanied the sushi which can be terrible for those who are not relaxed with seameal.

The main difference between a sushi bar and a sushi restaurant is seating and how the restaurant operates. In most circles, a sushi bar is considered to be a cheaper, quicker version of the sushi restaurant. Due to this reputation, and the fact that a sushi bar is more equivalent to take out, the sushi may be of lower quality at a sushi bar than you would find at a sushi restaurant.

Lots of condiments are available with sushi dishes at sushi bars and you can opt any of them according to your taste. Mostly, soy sauce, wasabi and pickled ginger are there at your disposal.

A conventional green tea called Ocha is usually taken with almost all the sushi %meal%s. Sake or Ocha has been served at American sushi restaurants. As the status of the restaurant gets higher you might have Sake alternatively. Japanese usually give preference to Mecha over Ocha, which is also a loaded green tea.

A Unique Gift: Gourmet Food Gifts

By Annie Ismay

If you are looking for a gift a little out of the ordinary, you should consider giving one of the many excellent gourmet food gifts that are now available. From Italian antipasto to Scottish salmon and shortcake; French pastries to British relishes and pickles; there is a gift to cater to every taste.

To celebrate any holiday or event, giving gourmet food gifts can be an excellent way to get over that awkward, "what gift should I buy" moment. With food and drink especially selected for the time of year, it is a gift likely to be enjoyed by everyone; not just the lucky recipient.

Weddings in particular are fantastic to give gourmet food gifts. Whether you intend to arrange for a huge basket to be presented at the reception; or for it to be waiting the happy couple's arrival in their hotel room, it can be a stunning display. Each gift can be matched to the decor of the day, whilst a particularly special gift could be given with the help of other invited guests. For a novel idea; think of having a basket waiting for them at home as they arrive from honeymoon?

Increasingly, people are suffering from food allergies and intolerances. If this is a concern for you, have a chat with the gift provider. Not only will they be able to discuss alternative foods with you, but could even produce separate gluten free baskets should it be necessary.

In the corporate world too; gourmet food gifts make for fantastic donations. At the end of the year, such a gift can show staff and customers alike how thankful you are for their continued support and service.

Whilst off the shelf gourmet food gifts are available, it is usually worth spending a little time customizing your choice to really get the seal if individuality. And of course, working in this way, you can be sure of exactly what goes into it and take the plaudits that will surely come your way.

Try These Great Ice Cream Varieties

By Nicholas McMillan

Ice cream is my favorite dessert food there is. Kids all over the world go crazy for ice cream, and I must still be a kid. My love for it hasn't faded since my childhood, and I'm not sure that it ever will. While I obviously try to watch how much I eat for health reasons, I have to eat some ice cream here and there. Something as simple as a cup of vanilla ice cream can make me perfectly happy.

Besides the classics, there are also plenty of newer ice cream flavors that'd be pretty easy to miss if you weren't getting it as often as I do. While I love the classics and they'll never get old to me (chocolate is still my number one flavor when it comes down to it), there are some great newer flavors worth trying out.

I've had a number of different ice cream binges this year. It's been a stressful one, and ice cream definitely helps out with that. I've spent a lot of my time trying out new flavors because I've read good things about them. Here are a few that really stand out to me.

The brown sugar flavor by Haagen Dazs is a can't miss. If you like something sweet, this is a great flavor that truly tastes like the brown sugar you'd use baking cookies as a kid growing up.

Another really interesting type of ice cream was the fleur de caramel. I don't kid when I say that it's one of the most unique types of ice cream I've ever tried, as the blend of the sweet caramel mixed with salt results in a really unique flavor.

I hope they come out with more sweet and salty blends. It's kind of like eating a chocolate covered pretzel, only that it's caramel instead of chocolate. Whatever it is, I want more of it.

Another amazing ice cream flavor is the sticky toffee pudding at Haagen Dazs. It's simply divine in my book and also tastes very much like real toffee.

If you have a Baskin Robbins near you, make sure to try out the new Oreo Outrageous flavor. Closest thing to an Oreo I've ever had when it comes to ice cream.

A BBQ Chicken Recipe That Beats the Rest

By James Swelling

Who doesn't love BBQ Chicken? Apart from vegetarians of course. It is just one of the most loved dishes around the globe and for good reasons. Chicken is a meat available to all, it is not overly expensive, a great source of protein, fills you up and makes you feel good! BBQ chicken does not have to be grilled or smoked it can be cooked in the oven too. The trick is knowing what items go into a good recipe so that you and your family enjoy the result.

So a recipe that should be good will have some of the following ingredients; garlic, mustard, ketchup, cumin, some even use beer, sugar, cinnamon, Worcestershire sauce - and many more. If it has an Asian twist look for honey, Hoisin sauce, ginger and soy sauce. There is quite a range of ingredients and it is a pretty flexible recipe, what it comes down to are what ingredients appeal to you and your taste. There is a great recipe from a show called 'Paula's Home Cooking' where Paula Deen makes a recipe called Deen's Brothers BBQ Chicken. It can be cooked in the grill or in the oven.

Ingredients:1/4 cup dark brown sugar packed, 1 cup ketchup, 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder, tablespoons orange juice, teaspoon cayenne pepper, teaspoon liquid smoke, teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, chicken (3 1/2 pounds) cut into eight. Preparation: preheat the oven to 375F or if cooking on the grill brush it with olive oil. In a large bowl mix in all the ingredients apart from the chicken. Put aside a third of the sauce for later and then add the chicken in the bowl and move it around so that BBQ sauce coats it. If cooking in the oven place the chicken in a roasting pan and cook for 40-45 minutes or until properly cooked. If cooking on the grill cover it. Remember to use the BBQ sauce you set aside to baste the chicken after twenty minutes of cooking.

The chicken tastes great and it is a recipe anyone can follow, grilled or not. For those of you not used to cooking with liquid smoke this gives meat a smoked flavor and smell without having to actually smoke it. If you do not like smoked meat then just leave it out!

If you are not used to cutting up pieces of meat and are unsure how to cut a whole chicken into eight pieces ask your butcher to do it, or just buy chicken pieces! Either buy a selection of legs, thighs and breasts or go for just the thighs as these tend to be a lot cheaper than the breast and still taste good. Plus they will cook quicker so you can get to the eating quicker! Try it out and I am sure you will be happy with it.

Learn The Basics of Cooking to Become A Gourmet Food Expert

By Brent Schumacher

Gourmet foods are done with sophistication, especially by Iron Chefs. You may think that a simple looking food is made by a snap of your fingers. This is not entirely true. You need not be an expert for you to make a remarkable dish, but knowing the basic of cooking will surely come in handy. Just remember that everything starts from scratch.

Cutting is very important in cooking gourmet food. Chopping is a method that you can use if you want randomly small sized ingredients, which is perfect for onions, tomatoes, etc. Dicing is the smaller version that you may do, like slicing your potatoes into cubes. Garlic deserves mincing, ending in very small pieces. But regardless of what method you prefer, you have to be careful with the knife that you are using.

Now after all those ingredients are ready, you can now saute all those. Sauteing is the process of cooking something quickly. A small amount of oil is used over direct heat while tossing all the spices and other ingredients altogether. Easy, isn't it?

Breading is another method used in cooking gourmet foods. Surprisingly, a lot of people still don't know how to complete this process without getting all messy. The technique here is to have one hand soaking the meat in liquid while the other is used to dip the meat into the crumbs. This technique will not get your fingers sticky and messy.

Now, if you don't want that crunchy feeling in your mouth, try grilling. You can do that by directing radiant heat on your raw food. You can also try using a metal grate over hot coals. But if you prefer to do this indoors, there are available grilling pans in the market where you can grill your gourmet food on top of the stove.

Marinating your food before grilling is essential in gourmet food cooking. This is the process where you infuse different flavors to the food by soaking them in a marinade solution over a period of time.

And how could you forget your pastas? Have you ever heard of the term al dente? Sounds Italian right? You can tell if your pasta is already al dente if you can feel a slight resistance once you bite it. If you've achieved that, it means that your pasta has just cooked perfectly- not too soggy and not too crisp.

If you want to know how to cook gourmet foods, it's a must that you first learn the basics of cooking. When you master them, that's the time you can start experimenting with different gourmet dishes. Just remember to put passion in your cooking to ensure that you end up with a good-tasting dish.
